HISTORICAL CONNECTIONS, SOCIOLOGICAL FRAMEWORKS AND LITERATURE REVIEW

General stories about education and public health are quite interesting when you really think of it. When it comes to education it comes down to suburban and urban schools (white and black), which schools are getting the better education suburban or urban schools? And why aren’t they getting the education they are entitled to receive? Receiving a good education plays a big part in Public health/safety. A good education has a lot to do with keeping communities around the word safe and healthy; when you think of education, it would behoove you not to think of just the education you receive in school but also every day things that people should know. Things like street smarts, being educated on STD’s, knowing how hard it is to be a teen parent. Things like that make the difference and help our society when it comes to health and safety.

A story on education can be told in two separate parts as well as together. The story on education is simple suburban schools get the better education hands down. They have the better technology, tough teachers, better buildings, more support, and money. Urban schools on the other hand have unstable teachers, broken down buildings, not enough technology, and not enough money to get up to par with the schools in the suburbs. “White and African American students, educators note that at least some of the achievement gaps reflect disparities in resources available to such students” (Closing the Achievement Gap pg. 8). Showing that recourses make or break a student’s education; proving that suburban schools once again beat us when it comes to education.

The story on Public health/safety, many believe is a simple thing just stay in school, graduate and everything will be ok. But in reality it is not that simple, in a class discussion that we had it was proven that just an education is no longer good enough. It is important for people to also be what we like to call street smart. People should be educated about violence, STD/HIV prevention, teen pregnancy, and even unwritten stop snitching rule. It is important for citizens to realize the importance of

It is also possible to combine both and unfair education with Public health/safety.

We were asked to get two articles as secondary sources, and I was lucky enough to find two great articles that definitely helped me back up my beliefs. The first article I found was National Surveillance Data for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Syphilis. The main focus of the reading was mainly to educate Americans of the data that these people have collected about various sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). The authors managed to collect all types of data, they got the female Chlamydia rates from 2005, what ages and how big population is; they had graphs and health tips. I was also given a graph on Gonorrhea rates from 1941-2005; the graph consist of statistics on different races that get it what parts of the us that get it and more health tips.
