Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data:
When it was time for me to look into my GSI maps I pick 2 maps that will best fit why suburban schools receive more resources than urban schools.
- Map 1: Percentage Black Population in 2000,
In map two I wanted to show the % of blacks in each neighborhood, to prove that where the most black people live the more poverty there’ll be. Looking at the map you notice Boston is the darkest area, which means most black people live in the city which means more students, which means more urban schools, which also means more money. Go to a town like Peabody, they have one High school which means all their money is going into that one school, but take Boston they have over 15 high schools, and their all Boston Public Schools. Like I stated before about map 1, the more far out you live, the more money. The reason is because not a lot of black people live there and there aren’t many urban schools.
- Map 2: Percentage White Population in 2000
