A very profound young lady has a very intriguing tale of her life. She has been through so many ordeals in life that she has managed to get through and grow from. Ordeals such as moving from home to home, country to country; and fitting in among others because of being new, or having a disability. These ordeals have brought her grief, love, pride, and joy, and have also taught her the important principles of life. At times not thinking or acknowledging that these principles were pertinent, but as time progressed, as did she, there were lessons that were learned and had to be learned, that showed her that these certain principles were important. There were moral principles, ethical principles, life principles, and personal principles that were learned.

Growing up on the wonderful island of Barbados was the highlight of her life.  Living there with her mother and father, and big sister, was like growing up an only child. Her education in Barbados consisted of going to West Terrace Primary School. It was a challenging sector of her life because after a while at the age of eight, fitting in became a problem. This was because something developed with her health, causing her to be differentiated between her and her peers.

After this incident she moved to the United States with her mom and six other siblings, where she was forced to assimilate herself to the new system. The new system being the country and her new school, which was the New Boston Pilot Middle School. Here she faced the challenge of fitting in, because she was now in a new grade, and was the new girl. And of course her health problem stood in the way of her ever being normal and fitting in and being one of the norms again. When I say fitting in I mean that she wanted to be apart of the normal crowd again, have a meaning among others, and be seen as important. But what was she to do? Soon enough she overcame and surpassed the year of school, graduated successfully, and moved on to her high school, BCLA, Boston Community Leadership Academy.

At her high school now she wondered what experience she would have here especially with fitting in and being like the others. Would she be able to be a part of this new “community” as they called it? For the first year and a half she struggled to be one of them. Them being a normal person again.  As time went on in her new school, she began to think to herself, “what was a normal person?” “What made someone normal?” She realized that normal was just a word, and that being normal was just a part of being like everyone else. This is one of the principles that she learned in life. This was not only a moral, or life principle, but this was a personal principle. A lesson that everyone should learn. “Be your self,” that was it, the answer to all her questions and doubts of fitting in and being normal. You shouldn’t care what others think, just be your self and they’ll just have to accept you for who you are. And soon enough they did. They accepted every part of her, even her health problem, and that was great thing. She became as strong as an Ox, mentally and academically, and that was the best experience she had ever been through in a long time.

Today this girl still attends this school, and is now a senior. She has been through so many experiences in her life, good and bad, that in some way this school and the people them selves in this school have inspired her and made her so different and better. Life is full of experiences, and she has learnt that no matter what, you never give up on finding your self and never lose or think that you have lost your self. That girl is I, I’m Atticia, and this is my life story.
