As we proved during the whole academic year in Capstone class, young people can be very effective in leading and participating in community change. The work we have done in this class can easily prove such statement. Starting with the Oral History Project and its final essay on what is the story of Boston today from the youth perspective and what information and whose voices capture that story, I can remind myself of discovering and uncovering the truth. It was a fantastic experience, where young people, my classmates participated in community change by doing interviews, and researches that could help our city, our neighborhoods, and our whole community.

This was just a beginning of the whole exciting and emotional process that we were about to experience. The next was The PAR paper and complex steps behind it. Me among young people were able to sharpen their skills in a capacity for leadership by doing research on their own, contribution to community by willingness to change something in their neighborhoods, academic scholarship by doing great job in researching and writing the whole paper, and finally practice the BCLA Habits of Mind, such as Reading and Writing, Personal responsibility, living and learning interdependently and commitment to learning.

Above assignments brought incredible change in demonstrating leadership, participating in community and most importantly own satisfaction and pride of finishing something for the first time in one’s life.
