Well in the time that I had with the kids I wanted to make sure that my question was put out there, but I also wanted them to understand what the question was about. And I wanted to get a good conversation as well. So before I just threw the question at them because they are still young and learning, I asked them what makes them feel more comfortable, school or outside on the streets. Most of them said school and others said streets, and when I asked that question I also asked why, I asked those two questions so that they could understand my main question. So when I did ask them my main question they had a better understanding of what I was talking about and they could answer it clearly. The whole point was to present it to the kids piece by piece so they understood.

While I was at my site I gathered a lot of qualitative data, the principal and staff were more than helpful when they gave us information about their school and what their school does for their students. When I asked the principal Erica Herman, what does her school do for her students she said that “The Thomas Gardner Elementary School is focused on getting their students the education they need but also making their experience at the school a fun one.” She said “The Gardner is a school that wants their students to realize that work comes first and play comes second.” Also one of her staff members Julie said that same thing, that students need to work hard before they can have fun, and the students make sure that they have the grades before they can do the activities that they love.
