According to my research, young people are not at all knowledgeable about STD’s, and HIV/AIDS, and although programs are effective there isn’t enough funding to help educate youth. The results of the survey I distributed were extremely shocking. I wasn’t aware of how little the youth knew about health factors that can affect them. Not only weren’t they aware, but a lot of them weren’t concerned about the issue. As I gave out the surveys, a lot of the teens sucked their teeth, and said “I don’t care about this.” The results of the survey proved those comments true.

The next steps that I would recommend in this research project would be a city wide youth summit that would be dedicated to educate the youth about different STD’s and HIV/AIDS, as well as how they can catch it and how they can prevent that from happening. The summit would be a great chance for the youth of Boston to not only get educated, but also come together and figure out how they can save their future and make it into a safe future. In the future, I would like to see more programs that deal with these kinds of issues. I would also like to see sex education classes in more school.

A lot of the people I surveyed have never been tested for STD’s or HIV/AIDS. The youth don’t pay enough attention to their health, and that will end up hurting them in the future. If we had more programs devoted to help the youth understand about their bodies, and what to do in order to produce a secure and healthy life, then they would know how to protect themselves. No one can do what they don’t know, and not knowing can sometimes be fatal when it comes to one’s life. We need to stand up and fight for our health so our lives don’t become just another statistic.
