Section VI. Data Analysis and Findings

Although I wasn’t able to gather a lot of information at HOPE, I did notice a few things about the center the first day that I went there that I took note of.  For one, there were posters, and brochures everywhere.  The whole center had to do with different STD’s, drugs, and HIV/AIDS. It was a comfortable environment to come across. I was able to gain some knowledge just by looking at different posters. The director took us to a room where there were tables and chairs. He said that he never allows the students to sit at the tables, but instead he moves the tables so it wouldn’t feel like a school environment, but instead a comfortable setting where they would be able to express themselves without feeling as if they were a student, and they had to participate. This setting made it easier for the youth to feel as if they wanted to help, not as though they were obligated to. The director of the program was also very outgoing, and down to earth which made it easier to ask questions even though it was the first day and I didn’t know him too well. Overall, the setting was a great place to gather information, because there were a lot of data that could be used to go into more depth with my research. Unfortunately the first day was the last day that I would be able to observe anything else, because due to weather complications, and other reasons the site was either closed or the director was not there. It was actually a great disappointment for me, because I was actually looking forward to working with HOPE, but since that wasn’t possible I had to find other ways to record, and find data necessary to complete my research.
