Section II. Problem, Question, and Hypothesis

I am going to attack the issue of how much the youth knows about health. Health is an important part of life that is often ignored. Society tends to live in an unhealthy lifestyle, and doesn’t care to improve it’s living conditions. STD’s and HIV/AIDS are concerns that everyone should be aware of, yet so many people have no idea of the complications and threats these infections and diseases may bring. Along with not knowing about them, too many people go out and look for the information on their own. The youth in particular are affected by these circumstances, because they are the ones most likely to get infected. Being uneducated about these issues only causes harm to one’s body and their state of health. A lot of teenagers today are sexually active, and having sex is a big risk that many teens take without knowing the dangers and risks of having it. Sex education is not provided in a lot of schools, and sometimes parents don’t talk to their kids about sex or are uneducated about the subject themselves. This results in the spread of STD’s and HIV/AIDS. A lot of young people also use drugs, and along with these drugs are needles. This can also bring about infections. Teens don’t know ways that they can be harmed, and usually think it can’t ever happen to them.
Public health is an issue that needs to be tackled. Society is worried about so many other problems that we don’t recognize the risks we are facing everyday. Uneducated people will pass on infections to other uneducated people, and we will never be able to break this harmful cycle. We need to start paying more attention to ourselves, and how to protect ourselves from harm. Guns can kill a person, but so can a virus. It is our responsibility to make sure that the youth are well aware of the different dangers of having sexual intercourse or intravenous drug use. Without educating a person, there is no way to bring about change.
