Stereotypes

Bianca- "so how has violence affected you?"

Steve-"it has affected me because you know I live in Charlestown there’s a lot of Caucasian people there’s a lot of Spanish people there’s a lot of Caucasian people to like you know adults business people when I get on the bus to go to school come home from school they’ll look at you in way certain ways like this dude aint going to school he’s bout to go sell some drugs or something and stare me down and when I’m on the bus talking to my friends about college they look at me all surprised like this dude is really thinking about going to college?"

Programs, being involved

Jessica- "what is the root of the problem?"

Cassandra- " think its going back to the neighborhood and implementing programs to help youth and umm not just attacking those who are currently in gangs and so forth but starting off with the younger children and building it up its not only about cleaning the streets but creating an environment for our children to grow up in. that is a more peaceful"

Jessica-"what do you feel the youth can do to prevent violence?"

Cassandra-" think umm in order to prevent violence the youth themselves need to become involved in our neighborhoods and our environment umm they need to be involved in promoting programs creating programs implementing them so they feel that they are a part of the neighborhood so it takes not only getting the youths off the streets but having them become involved in the actual progression of making Boston a non violent neighborhood"

Innocent targets

Jessica-" know you got three kids how do you know how do you sense them growing up in this violence"

Sandra-" think its unfair to them because like when they want to go to the park we cant go to the park because even in playgrounds things are going on and its unsafe for them they cant even sit on the front doorstep because god knows what’s gonna happen drive bys and fighting and its just crazy for them"

Jessica-"so what do you think needs to happen in order for things to change ?"

Sandra-"seriously I don’t think anything’s gonna happen because its like when they lock up whoever’s doing it there’s if there’s other members whose gonna pick up where they left off and there’s so much hatred towards the police because of the way they get treated they treat the people umm and the people that’s been in jail for so long for violent crimes are coming out so I think its going downhill"

Overall Message

Jessica-"so if you can talk to the youth of Boston today what would you tell them"

Sandra-"violence isn’t the way to solve your problems your just gonna hurt yourself and your surroundings."
