A CAPACITY FOR
LEADERSHIP
The 1970’s bussing era is an example of how “leadership” can be
enforced in a community. In the bussing era, Boston Public Schools
were having problems with desegregation and busing black and white
students. Not being used to each other caused both races to be
skeptical of one another. Students and parents were getting
tired of not being treated fairly so they got together and made a
stop to it. At the end, the black community had come together and
got the court to let their children go to white schools in South
Boston and white children go to black schools in Roxbury. The
students demonstrated “leadership” by coming together and taking
action in getting their school desegregated.
