Historical Background

  • Lowell Mill Girls
  • DSNI-Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative
  • Boston Busing

Lowell Mill Girls- were a group of girls that worked in factories and were affected by industrialization

DSNI- a program in Roxbury, which was geared to rebuilding Roxbury's neighborhood

Boston Busing- On June 21, 1974, desegregation of all Boston Public Schools was put in effect by Judge Garrity. This ruling came 7 years after the Brown vs. Board of Education case, which led to the desegregation of South Public Schools. All was fine until South Boston (predominately white) and Roxbury (predominately black) found out they had to integrate.
