Ingrid was another student whose oral history, in particular, effectively and creatively captured the youth perspective about the issue of ongoing violence in the streets of Boston.

“In the interviews, I came to the conclusion that adults know that they don’t pay enough attention to the youth and with that, the youth seem to distance themselves from interaction with adults around them.  The youth feel that they are not ..listened to but tend to do everything on their own. Without knowing it, the youth actually follow in the footsteps of adults around them…this is their way of independency.  The way that the youth want control of their lives and take action of their own, is a mirror-image of the behaviors of the adults surrounding them.”
